BASIC FUNCTION: Ensure the safe and orderly transportation of students and others on assigned bus route to and from school and other authorized locations including special events. Ensures vehicle is in a safe operating condition at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas CDL (Class B with Passenger Endorsement), No record of DUI convictions or other moving violations. Valid Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate. Must be able to pass DOT mandated physical exam. Previous experience driving a bus or transporting passengers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Observes all traffic laws and safety regulations and AAMA policies and procedures for school buses.

2. Maintains safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus. Appropriately responds to emergency situations.

3. Maintains appropriate student discipline during transport. Reports student incidents to the appropriate supervisors.

4. Follows assigned route and adhere to set schedules. Transports only authorized students.

5. Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submit work orders as necessary.

6. Communicates with department personnel, school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus.

7. Keeps assigned bus clean and fueled.

8. Properly operates all assigned communications equipment.

9. Reports all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries as they occur to supervisor.

10. Completes and submit all required reports and documentation.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand/arm movements. Ability to work indoors and outdoors; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes. Ability to communicate effectively to resolve concerns and complaints and complete required reports and paperwork. Ability to see well for purposes of driving a vehicle safely, monitoring passengers, traffic and inspecting vehicles.
